If you’ve ever wondered how we build our structures using Industrialised Building System (IBS) solutions you’re in luck because today, we will be taking you behind the scenes of one of our current projects. We can’t give too much away, save for the fact that what we are building are residential houses.
For this build, we are using our steel frame and formwork process which we briefly talked about here. Since this is an ongoing project, we will be updating this blog periodically as we complete each phase. So, do stay tuned and we hope this will give you a better insight into how we use IBS construction to its fullest potential.
The Foundation
After the land is cleared, we will start by laying down what is called the Raft Foundation. Full disclosure, this isn’t an IBS technique but it suits the purpose of our build. The concept of the Raft foundation is a flat slab of concrete which helps to evenly distribute the weight of the project over the entire build area. And also, this is where we ensure that there is the right amount of piping is laid down for drainage, waste, etc.
The Frame
Once the foundation is complete, then, it is time to create the steel frame and formwork which will serve as a mould for our lightweight concrete pour later. We are using a cold-rolled steel frame which can be rolled on-site which saves time and lowers the cost of logistics.
Then, after the metal frame has been erected, we then use UAC fibreboards to complete the mould.
The Next Step
Next the lightweight concrete is poured into the “moulds” made by these UAC fibre boards to give the structure its strength.
The Finishing Touches
Once the main structure is complete, then we add in all the other components like the internal and external fixtures.
And after that, all that is left is the aesthetic work and voila, the home is now complete!
